If you are 171/2 – 19 years old, you can start working for the Virginia State Police now in a position that will give you on-the-job training, preparing you for a career as a Virginia State Trooper. Upon turning 21 years old, and successfully completing all stages of the Trooper hiring process, we will have a place at the Academy saved for you. This program also provides an educational incentive, offering you the ability to earn an associate degree in Administration of Justice by the time you graduate the Trooper Basic School.

Pathway Opportunities

Throughout this experience, Program candidates will essentially be long-term interns and will work in one of several occupational tracks throughout the Department. Virginia State Police offer tracks that are designed to prepare you for a rewarding and fulfilling career as a State Trooper:

Dispatcher

Informational Security Officer

Virginia Fusion Center Analyst

Tactical Flight Officer

Equipment Repair Technician

And Many More

Candidates work as full-time employees in various tracks across the Department, earning $35,000 annually plus benefits.

Career Pathway:
This program bridges the gap for young adults until they meet the age requirement (21) to enter the Trooper Academy.

Reserved Space in the Academy:
Candidates that successfully complete the program will have a place at the Academy saved for you.
